Keep in mind, Sunday School is centered on Bible study – not quarterly study. While the quarterly may help during the week to stimulate a student’s thinking or give some basic information about a particular theme or passage of Scripture, the aim of the class is to engage in the study of the Bible.
Here are the first two steps in lesson preparation:
1. Pray:
· Pray that the lesson you are preparing would be an evident part of your own life.
· Pray for the protection of your lesson preparation time.
· Pray that you will be given grace and illumination to rightly divide God’s Word.
· Pray that the words you choose to build your lesson outline will be effective tools for the Holy Spirit to use.
· Pray that you will have insight into the needs of your class as they relate to the lesson you are preparing.
2. Determine the Passage: look at the assigned passage for the week and use the "focal passage" as the aim of your Bible study.
